Alfa Power has installed the UK’s first 100 kW CCS rapid charger, capable of matching the charging capabilities of the latest generation of EVs such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and Jaguar I-Pace.

The unit is the fastest in the UK available to all EV drivers, excluding those Tesla Supercharger points that, though capable of 120 kW charging, are only usable by Tesla drivers.

Alfa Power’s latest rapid charger is capable of providing up to 120 kW, though for now it has been capped at 100 kW until the market is there for more power to be required.

Although few EVs can charge at 100 kW, the new models mentioned above – plus the likes of the Kia e-Niro, Audi e-tron, Porsche Taycan, and Mercedes Benz EQC due next year – can accept the higher speeds available from the Alfa Power unit.

Fitted with CCS at up to 100 kW, the rapid charger also has a 60 kW CHAdeMO connector, plus 43 kW AC Type 2 connector, and 22 kW Type 2 inlet.

The new 100 kW unit has been made live as part of Alfa Power’s 1st anniversary celebrations. The event saw local MP Andrea Jenkyns push the button on the new installations.
