Nissan and Sir Chris Hoy have announced that a special gold Leaf will be given to each of the manufacturer’s brand ambassadors should they win a gold medal at the forthcoming Rio Olympics.
Launched at the site of the previous event and outside the Lee Valley Velopark, the six-time Olympic champion launched the extra incentive for those sponsored by Nissan and competing in the up-coming games.
Nissan ambassadors include the likes of heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, gymnast Max Whitlock and multi-gold medal winners David Weir CBE and Richard Whitehead MBE. All will have the chance to drive away in a exclusive gold-wrapped all-electric Leaf.
Hoy has been taking part in a motorsport programme with Nissan after his retirement from first class cycling, culminating in getting behind the wheel of one of the Japanese firm’s entrants at Le Mans this summer. “It’s always exciting and nostalgic to come back to the Velopark, after winning my fifth and sixth gold medals here,” said Sir Chris.
“For all of the Nissan athletes going to Rio, the 2016 Games will be a moment in their careers that they will never forget, whether they win a medal or not.
“But let’s hope they can do it – compete at their best and come home with gold. It would be fantastic to hand over one of these special gold Nissan Leafs on their return.”

Nissan athletes, who successfully step up to the top of the podium in Brazil, will receive their golden Leaf on their return from Rio. One of the gold wrapped Nissan Leafs will be on display at Nissan’s Innovation Station at The O2 in London from 26th July throughout the whole Games period. One car will be given per champion athlete regardless of how many gold medals they win.
