An independent bakery in Sheffield is the latest business to benefit from Inmotion!’s Electric Vehicle (EV) scheme. The Depot Bakery now has a Nissan e-NV200 pure-electric van as a delivery vehicle for the area.
Owner Ben Smith said: “We were thinking about purchasing a vehicle for a while and had been waiting for a model that matched our specifications. We liked the idea of not having to spend on diesel, knowing that going forward it would be a great PR angle for the company.
“Wherever economic and environmental decisions go hand in hand we’d always do it and this was an easy win with benefits all round. We work with food waste charities and are getting much more efficient with regards to recycling so an electric vehicle really is the logical next step in company evolution.”
The Electric Vehicle Project is run in South Yorkshire by sustainable transport partnership Inmotion!. The project is a partnership between Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield councils and the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and aims to help businesses make greater use of sustainable transport systems.
Current funding runs until the end of March with businesses able to apply for a grant of up to $10,500 for the flexible lease of a plug-in van, or £7,500 for a plug-in car, for up to two years. They can apply for an additional grant of £500 towards the cost of installing a charging point at the workplace too. To date, Inmotion! has already delivered 16 EVs as part of the Electric Vehicle Project.
