Bute has installed it’s first electric vehicle charging point in the centre of Rothesay, which will be ready for use “in a matter of weeks”.
The new charging facility will make the prospect of owning and operating an electric vehicle much more attractive for residents and visitors to the island.
The council has already tried to encourage the uptake of EVs by introducing a 50% discount for EV drivers using the CalMac’s Rothesay-Wemyss Bay ferry crossing.
The discount was introduced by the Scottish Government in September 2013 and will be complimented greatly by this new charging point.
The new units will be 22kW AC fast charge points, which can generally fully charge an EV in a couple of hours. The council has said it is also working towards installing ‘rapid charging points’ at other locations in Argyll and Bute.
