Electric vehicle record breaker Dr Jeff Allan has set off on his third Guinness World Record attempt, this time aiming to complete the ‘longest journey on a motorised bicycle’.
Now two weeks in to his attempt – which should take around 90 days in total to complete – Jeff is cycling his way to Denmark from Birmingham . . . via Spain.
To beat the current record, Jeff will need to cover more than 8,209 km (5,100 miles) on his Riese & Muller New Charger e-bike. Fitted with two 500 Wh batteries, the bicycle has enough range to cover 120 miles on a single charge in eco mode. This is enough to provide half the energy required each day, with the rest coming from Jeff pedalling.
Jeff said: “Every two years, I try to complete an electric vehicle Guinness World Record challenge and at the same time raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. My mother had short term memory problems in the last years of her life and although it was never diagnosed as Alzheimer’s it is an illness that affects so many people and impacts hugely on friends and family.”
He already holds two Guinness World Records for charging time in an electric vehicle, across Britain and Europe, and has written a free book “Can you drive an electric car in Britain?”.
