The Next Green Car Awards 2018 have been announced, with electric models winning every vehicle category.

The Awards look to recognise the best green cars launched in the UK in 2018, with seven titles available in total. Four categories cover core model types, with the winners eligible for Next Green Car’s outright Car of the Year 2018 Award. These are are joined by Next Generation and Manufacturer of the Year awards.

The winners of the Next Green Car Awards 2018 are as follows:

Urban Car Award 2018: Smart EQ fortwo

NGC verdict: “Small but perfectly packaged for urban driving, the Smart EQ fortwo is a leading example of an electric car that’s better suited to its task than the petrol version. It’s easily one of the best ways to get about town on four wheels.”

Supermini Award 2018: Renault Zoe R110

NGC verdict: “Improved performance without compromising efficiency is an impressive feat from Renault with its updated electric best-seller. The Zoe R110 is a great compact EV, and provides one of the most affordable routes to EV ownership.”

Family Car Award 2018: Hyundai Kona Electric 64 kWh

NGC Verdict: “With its class leading electric range allied to a good all-round family car package, Hyundai’s Kona Electric is a model that proves EVs are not only an alternative to petrol or diesel models, but are often a better option outright.”

Premium Car Award 2018: Jaguar I-Pace

NGC verdict: “The all-electric I-Pace feels every inch a Jaguar, combining performance, practicality, and premium comfort in a way few other manufacturers can. This model is set become an iconic electric car and paves the way for Jaguar to become a world-leading electric brand.”

Next Generation Award 2018: Volkswagen ID.

NGC verdict: “The ID. will offer mass-market electric motoring at an affordable price with plenty of performance options for buyers to choose from. Like the market-changing Mini, Beetle, or Fiat 500, Volkswagen’s ID. has the potential to become a landmark car for the industry.”

Manufacturer Award 2018: Hyundai

NGC verdict: “While Hyundai’s Kona Electric has been making headlines this year, the company’s plug-in activities are far more significant than just one model. Now with the Ioniq Electric, Ioniq Plug-In, and Kona Electric, Hyundai is becoming a class-leading electric brand.”

Car of the Year Award 2018: Hyundai Kona Electric 64 kWh

NGC verdict: “With its 279 mile range, the Hyundai Kona Electric represents outstanding value for money when compared with rival offerings. As the first to bring a long-distance EV to mass-market customers – and with such a capable package – Hyundai’s Kona Electric is NGC’s Car of the Year 2018.”
