Coventry City Council is upgrading its EV charging network, with new GeniePoint units replacing legacy Chargemaster points. The move will see seven new 7kW twin socket charge points installed about the city.
With the removal of the existing Chargemaster points – installed as part of the initial roll-out of the Coventry’s EV charge points through the Plugged-In Places project – the new points will make up part of the GeniePoint network. To access the points, drivers will need to either use an RFID card or GeniePoint app.
Alex Bamberg, Managing Director of GeniePoint parent company ChargePoint Services Ltd, said: “The City of Coventry is geographically situated at the global centre of cutting-edge, automotive engineering technology.
“Coventry City Council is majorly supportive of clean vehicle technology and we are very pleased to be supporting their efforts to provide outstanding recharging facilities to drivers visiting the City Centre. We look forward to the next phase of the project which will be to provide rapid charging facilities enabling even faster charging for drivers around Coventry City Centre.”
Work will be phased in, with two new chargers in Croft Road and Little Park Street, and three installed at the Memorial Park & Ride site. Some units are already installed and active, and you can find these by using the GeniePoint network filter on Zap-Map desktop and app. As more come online, these will be added to Zap-Map too.
