Public rapid charging network InstaVolt has revealed it expects to have installed its 1,000th EV charge point by summer 2022. The plans have been revealed as the 700th unit is due to be switched on later this month.

There are already more than 200 rapid chargers at various stages the installation phase, and a number of partnerships with the likes of McDonald’s, Costa Coffee, EH Booths, and KFC mean the 1,000 charger landmark is expected to be passed during the summer months.

All InstaVolt charge points are accessible with a contactless credit or debit card, or via the network’s smartphone app. Each offers rapid or ultra-rapid DC charging from dual-connector chargers, featuring both CCS and CHAdeMO plugs.

As well as new sites going live, InstaVolt is expanding existing ones, such as the popular Banbury rapid charging hub just off the M40. Having launched with eight chargers only a few years ago, work is already underway to double the capacity.

This year will also see InstaVolt’s first chargers installed in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

“Improving public charging infrastructure across the whole of the UK is vital for people to feel confident enough to make the switch to electric vehicles. I’m proud to be spearheading the delivery of more rapid chargers to all four corners of the UK,” said InstaVolt CEO Adrian Keen.

“The past year has seen InstaVolt grow its network by over 50%, and there is no slow down expected over the coming months and years. Each month, SMMTs figures demonstrate the rise in EVs on the road, and our announcement dispels the myth that investment in charging infrastructure is lacking behind vehicle numbers.

“Not only does the UK need more chargers, but those chargers need to be reliable, in great locations and easy to use. The InstaVolt network delivers these requirements to drivers, as well as corporate fleets making the transition to electric.”
