Businesses in South Yorkshire are being offered the chance to trial lease an electric car or van for a discounted rate through a new shceme.

Launching on the 4th June 2014, it is the first of its kind to use government grants to deliver reduced leasing rates for electric cars.

Up to 80 small-to-medium size enterprises, based in the Barnsley, Doncaster, Sheffield or Rotherham areas will be able to apply to lease one of a number of popular electric car models. Leases are available for as for 12, 24, 36 or 48 month periods.

Cars available through the scheme include the Nissan LEAF and the most of the Renault Z.E range; consisting of the Twizy, Kangoo Z.E and the Zoe.

Grants up to £10,500 for a van and up to £7,500 for a car mean that leasing rates can be significantly reduced.

To take part, businesses must employ less than 250 and turnover less than £50 million a year.

Electric Vehicles InMotion will also help businesses install workplace charging points to help them make the most of their new battery-powered steed. When on the road, vehicle owners will be able to use Zap-Map Live to find their nearest charge point.

Interested parties can apply for the scheme by visiting the evinmotion website, after which test drives of the electric cars can be arranged at a local dealer.

The scheme is being run as a partnership between the Barnsley, Doncaster, Sheffield and Rotherham councils along with energy firm, Npower and fleet management firm, Venson Automotive Solutions.
