A new guide for on-street EV charging has been published by UK Power Networks, providing information to local authorities considering installing public units.
The electricity grid distribution and maintenance provider for East Anglia, London, and the South East has compiled the guide, which explains the different types of charge point available, costs involved, the benefit for users, and timescale for installation.
There is a grant available for local authorities as support to provide on-street residential charge points, with the intention to remove some of the barriers for EV uptake for those withough access to off-street parking. The guide from UK Power Networks answers a number of quesitons that a local authority might have with any potential projects.
Mark Adolphus, Director of Connections at UK Power Networks, said: “Electric vehicles can help the UK meet its carbon emission ambition as well as contributing to improved air quality and the increasing take up of electric vehicles clearly means the demand for charge points is growing.
“As a responsible electricity network, we want to help local authorities embrace a low carbon future and plan to meet the demand. This guide will help inform local authority leaders about how UK Power Networks connects charge points to the existing electricity infrastructure, and help councils plan the quickest, most efficient and economical way of connecting charge points in future.”
