Kia has announced that the homologated range for its forthcoming e-Niro is 301 miles on a single charge. That’s based on the 64 kWh battery model, and calculated against WLTP tests.

This unsurprisingly puts the pure-electric e-Niro up against the Hyundai Kona Electric, coming as they do from the same manufacturing group and sharing a 64 kWh battery.

The 39.2 kWh e-Niro also due has a range of 193 miles on a single charge quoted, also practically identical to the similarly sized Kona Electric, again using the same 39.2 kWh battery.

Buyers will be able to charge the e-Niro at up to 100 kW on a rapid CCS charge point when they come online, and the e-Niro will include regenerative braking, Coasting Guide Control, and Predictive Energy Control to help drivers make the most of the charge available.

The Niro will join the Hyundai Ioniq as an entirely electrified range offering three different powertrain types – conventional hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure-electric.

As such, combined with the already available Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Soul EV, the group will have one of the most comprehensive electric line-ups on the market. In the shape of the e-Niro and Kona Electric, it also four variants split between two models that will lead the EV market for non-premium ranges.

The e-Niro will be launched officially at the Paris Motor Show next month, before going on sale later this year. UK prices and specifications will be announced closer to on-sale date.
