With the Source East EV charging network set to close in the next few days, NewMotion has announced it is offering to replace all existing charge points free of charge.

The move comes as Source East shuts down on the 31st March, with the charging solutions company aiming to offer an alternative to Chargemaster’s similar announcement last week.

NewMotion’s offer would see Source East charge points replaced where necessary free of charge, and the company will also offer to install rapid chargers in strategic spots for free too.

The points would then be available on a pay-as-you-go basis, with NewMotion offering a range of services to point owners, depending on their needs. For example, councils or businesses that don’t want the hassle of managing the units can have a complete back-office service provided, while others can simply have the points installed and deal with the running of them themselves.

The company’s UK Country Manager Sander van der Veen said: “NewMotion has an open network policy. Everyone should be able to charge. It’s not healthy for any market to be monopolised and we think NewMotion offers a much better alternative. We are offering to take out legacy Source East points and replace them.

Our first priority is to sort the Source East legacy units, but as the market progresses, we would look to add more points where they are needed, on a location by location basis.”

NewMotion is one of the leading charging networks in Europe and launched in the UK in the middle of last year. With 43,000 charge points across Europe, the company installs and operates its own units, but has also partnered with Charge Your Car to allow those with a NewMotion RFID card to use those network’s points too.
