Nissan will give a European public debut to its BladeGlider electric concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. On show from tomorrow (Thursday 28th June) the working concept will wow the crowds outside Goodwood House – but silently of course.
Last driven around the Monaco Grand Prix circuit at the announcement of Margot Robbie as Nissan Electric Vehicle Ambassador, the BladeGlider will now be available for the general public to see, with demonstration runs up the hill.
The first three days of the festival will see the BladeGlider take part in the Supercar runs up the Goodwood Hillclimb course. On Sunday though, the EV will be run around the Goodwood circuit.
When not being driven, the BladeGlider will be on display on the Nissan stand, alongside other high-performance models such as the famous GT-R.
The BladeGLider is part of Nissan’s commitment to electric cars, and connected and autonomous vehicles. The purpose of the BladeGlider is to add an element of fun and excitement to the company’s work on electric efficiency.
The BladeGlider is narrow for improved aerodynamics, but still able to sit three including the driver. Open-topped, and with rear-hinged wing doors, the Nissan concept certainly grabs the eye.
Capable of completing the 0-62mph sprint in less than 5 seconds, the BladeGlider can reach a top speed of almost 120mph. These performance figures are achieved thanks to two 130kW electric motors – one for each of the driven rear wheels.
The powertrain’s maximum output is 200 kW – two and a half times that of a Nissan Leaf – has been developed by Williams Advanced Engineering.
