As part of the city’s Go Ultra Low status, Nottingham has awarded Chargemaster a contract to install and operate around 230 EV charge points in and around the city.

Over the next three years, the EV charging company will install devices at a number of key strategic points, including park & ride sites close to major routes.

At least 11 sites will have charge points installed within the next six months, with the contract running for the next three years and involving sites in Nottingham, Derby, and areas of Nottinghamshire.

Nottingham was one of four UK sities awarded Go Ultra Low City status, with a portion of £40 million allocated to the bidders last year. Nottingham joins Milton Keynes in awarding a contract to Chargemaster a contract to install and run EV charge points as part of Go Ultra Low Cities plans.

Priority sites in Nottingham have already been listed, with each set to have new EV charge point infrastructure rolled-out in the near future. These include:

• Hucknall Park and Ride
• Moor Bridge Park and Ride
• Holborn Place, Bulwell
• Wollaton Hall
• Lace Market car park
• Phoenix Park Park and Ride
• Wilkinson Street Park and Ride
• The Forest Park and Ride
• Racecourse Park and Ride
• Queens Drive Park and Ride
• Clifton South Park and Ride

Units will be on the POLAR network once live, with POLAR Plus members and POLAR Instant pay-as-you-go users able to access them and charge their EV. Discount rates will be offered to local residents and businesses in Nottinghamshore and Derbyshire.

Councillor Sally Longford, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Local Transport, said: “A lack of charging infrastructure is often cited as one of the main barriers for people looking to buy an electric vehicle, and this project will go a long way to making it easier for motorists to drive around Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derby.

“Chargemaster has been involved in several schemes in other parts of the country and we’re excited to work with them to deliver our ambitions for Nottingham.”

David Martell, Chief Executive of Chargemaster, said: “We are extremely proud to have been appointed to develop the electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derby over the next three years.

“The council has a clear vision for Nottingham as a Go Ultra Low City and we are excited to be helping them to achieve it. The provision of public charging points for electric vehicles is critical for encouraging drivers to make the switch and ultimately to reduce urban emissions in our towns and cities.”
