Hyundai’s Kona Electric is now available to order in the UK via the company’s Click to Buy platform, with the new EV offered in two battery configurations.

Initially rolled out on the online-only service, the Kona Electric will be available through dealerships from next year. Until then, buyers will have to order via the website, with first deliveries expected from September.

The Kona Electric is Hyundai’s second pure-electric model – following on from the Ioniq – and will have both 39 kWh and 64 kWh batteries available.

The former offers an official range of 214 miles, while the 64 kWh model has a potentially game-changing official 339 miles available from a single charge. The latter model puts the Hyundai close to premium EVs from the likes of Tesla and Jaguar, though at around half the cost.

OTR prices start at £29,495 for the Kona Electric SE 39 kWh model, while the 64 kWh version starts at Premium trim level with a price of £33,995. However, neither of these prices include the Category 1 OLEV Plug-in Car Grant – worth £4,500 off the OTR cost of the electric Hyundai.

Both meet the category criteria, and it is expected to be just a matter of time before approval comes through from OLEV, to reduce the OTR costs by £4,500. As such, the Kona Electric line-up will likely start at less than £25,000, with the long range model starting at less than £30,000.
