Tesla is preparing to dramatically expand its public charging network by the end of 2017, in preparation for the launch of its Model 3 and increasing sales of the Model S and Model X.
From more than 5,000 Superchargers that Tesla started 2017 with, the company will more than double that figure to 10,000+ Superchargers worldwide by the end of the year.
That figure will be supported by more than 15,000 Destination chargers globally too, and the locations will cover a greater area than before, with inner-city locations given greater priority than previously.
Tesla plans to install enough points and expand existing sites so that ‘drivers never wait to charge’. An emphasis on creating a convenient network across the country – not just on main arterial routes – sees Tesla realign its priorities as the American EV firm looks set to become an executive mass-market manufacturer for the first time.
Sites won’t just be placed in urban areas though, with existing locations along main routes being expanded to cope with expected increased demand.
