Thruxton adds speedy EV charging to facilities

Fans of motor racing and electric cars will welcome the news that Thruxton has installed a EV charging points for visitors to use. The racing circuit has had a rapid charger and twin fast charging point installed by ChargePoint Services.

The Andover-based Thruxton Circuit’s points can be accessed by using an RFID card, of via the GeniePoint network app. Public assess is available between 7am and 9.30pm each day.

With the circuit located just off the A303, it is expected that a large number of EV drivers will use the charge points as the road is a key route between the south west and the home counties. Visitors to Thruxton will also be able to make use of the charge points on race days too.

Pat Blakeney, Group Operations Manager at Thruxton Circuit, said: “At Thruxton we are continually developing the venue to provide a diverse range of facilities to attract new visitors to the circuit.

“We had very little experience in electric vehicle charging, but ChargePoint Services were extremely efficient and took us through the sales, planning and installation process clearly, competently and with minimal disruption.

“In addition to passing drivers wishing to top up, we are confident that the installation of electric vehicle charging will encourage our current client list of manufacturers to use Thruxton as a venue for future events.”
