Renault and Nissan have announced that its 200 strong EV fleet at the COP21 climate conference covered at least 110,000 miles during the talks. The fleet saved around 18 tonnes of CO2 and has left a number of EV charging points for the public to use.

The electric vehicles from the two manufacturers worked as a shuttle service for more than 8,000 delegates, media officers and negotiators. Over the 12 days of the conference, the cars were driven more than 100,000 miles without emitting any tail-pipe emissions at all.

This has been calculated to have saved nearly 182 barrels of oil and approximately 18 tons of CO2 compared with a conventionally fuelled fleet. More than 3,800 transfers were completed, shuttling delegates from hotels to conference facilities in the Le Bourget area of Paris.

The fleet was the alrgest ever provided to an international conference and was driven by Renualt and Nissan employees who volunteered for the job. It was the first time a 100 per cent electric fleet was used at a UN event and worked alongside public transport to minimise the impact the conference’s transport had on the environment.

The Renault Nissan Alliance set up 90 rapid and standard charging points at strategic locations, all of which were powered by low-carbon electricity. A number of the rapid chargers will remain for the public to use, including those at the two main airports and those on the Paris ring-road.
