BMW has demonstrated their “Light & Charge” system in the UK for the first time, hoping it will revolutionise the ways that electric vehicles recharge.
Currently, one of the problems facing EV charge point installers is where to put them. With BMW’s “Light & Charge” solution the charging point is embedded in the base of a street light, which takes up very little space.
This compact system can be integrated into existing street lamps and would significantly increase the opportunity for in-city charging infrastructure.
Frank Bachmann, the managing director of Mini Plant Oxford, said: ‘Light & Charge is a simple and innovative solution which aims to integrate a charging station network into the urban landscape and this is essential if we want to see more electric vehicles on the road in our cities in the future.’
