EO Charging has completed the installation of the UK’s largest single-site EV charge point location for London-based logistics firm Gnewt Cargo.

A total of 40 new EO smart-chargers have been installed at Gnewt Cargo’s depot in Bow, London, with 63 EO smart-chargers ordered in total to keep the company’s 100% electric fleet on the go.

Gnewt Cargo reckons it has the world’s largest fully-electric delivery fleet in the world at around 100 vehicles, and delivered more than 2.6 million parcels in London last year – all with zero-tailpipe emissions.

Gnewt Cargo’s 63 EO smart-chargers are connected by two eoHUBs, with the whole system designed by The Phoenix Works. Gnewt Cargo received around £1 million in funding from Innovate UK as part of a Low Emission Freight Trial, and was supported in its application by the Mayor of London’s office.

Charlie Jardine, Founder of EO, said: “Whilst the Gnewt Cargo fleet is currently unique, we know that this size of EV fleets will become commonplace in cities over the next few years. We’re fully aligned to Sadiq Khan’s vision of a cleaner, greener London and know that drastic action is required if we are to reduce poisonous emissions by more than half, by 2025, across the city.

“By the end of January, London had already hit the legal air pollution limits for the whole of 2018. Whilst these are disturbing figures, we’re working closely with other fleet and logistics businesses to ensure that the appropriate electric vehicle charging infrastructure is readily available.”

Sam Clarke, Founder and now Head of Business Development at Gnewt Cargo, said: “Gnewt has been through a rapid growth phase over the last 8 years of trading which in turn has put greater focus on the way in which our ever-increasing electric fleet recharges. I was impressed how EO tackled this unique challenge and how the innovative yet cost-effective solution was presented.”
