Located at Three Maids Hill just metres from the A34 junction close to the M3, the new high-power hub will have 44 charging bays, including drive-through bays for large/towing vehicles and accessible charging bays, as well as an on-site restaurant and play area.

The site will contain large ground-mounted and roof-mounted solar arrays and on-site battery energy storage systems.

“There are now more than 1,100,000 fully electric cars on UK roads and Three Maids is the first of our new generation of Super Hubs. It represents a major landmark for us and will be game changing for EV drivers,” said InstaVolt CEO, Delvin Lane.

“Linking the South with the Midlands and beyond, the site will be a gateway to the Jurassic Coast and the South West for EV drivers who will be able to head off south confident in the knowledge that they will be able to stop off, have the convenience of contactless payment, and get a fast and reliable charge.

“As well as providing substantial charging for cars, there will be the provision of long bays for larger vehicles. We also understand that our network needs to be suitable for everyone, which is why our plans include designs to create accessibility for all.”

Plans for the hub were approved by Winchester City Council late last year and Cllr Kelsie Learney, Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency, gave them her full backing.

“Switching to electric vehicles is a key part of our strategy for decarbonising going forward and facilities like this play an important part in enabling that,” said  Cllr Learney.

Work on Three Maids is due to complete by Spring 2025 and is part of InstaVolt’s new phase of growth to deliver on its commitment to install 11,000 ultra rapid chargers in the UK and Ireland.

Instavolt and Zapmap share a live data partnership, enabling users of the Zapmap app and web map to access the live status and availability of InstaVolt charge points at any time. This function makes planning routes and charging stops even easier.
