Renault’s Twizy has been chosen for a car sharing scheme in the Lake District, with ten of the all-electric vehicles due to be used as part of the See More programme.

Run jointly by Cumbria County Council, The Lake District National Park Authority, Cumbria Tourism and Co-wheels Car Club, the Twizy’s will be available to hire from eight local businesses. The Renault was picked as part of the See More project’s sustainable travel programme which encourges visitors to leave the car behind while visiting the lakes.

Rental locations will be based in Keswick and Ullswater, with the Twizy proving a handy vehicle to use in the Lake District’s quiet and often narrow roads. Those to reach the national park by train or bus for example will be able to hire a Twizy to run around the area in.

The models will be easy to identify with a distinctive sheep livery, and arrive in time for the busy season that runs from Spring to Autumn in the Lake District. There are a number of Twizy’s already in action in the region while tourists will be able to charge at a number of locations overnight since the Renault uses a three-pin plug.

Available on a pay-as-you-go basis, more information on driving the Twizy’s around the Lake District can be found on the Co-wheels website.
