Nio EVs likely to be available in Europe in 2021

According to sources compiled by electrive, the relatively new all-electric Chinese brand Nio is planning for a European launch in 2021. What is more, the company is rumoured to be developing a battery pack with a capacity of 150 kWh, which would enable an electric driving range of over 550 miles.

The announcement was made by Nio founder William Li Bin at a Nio drivers’ club, and has yet to be confirmed by the company. If it were true, Nio would not only more than double the current range of a Nio ES6 (260 miles NEDC), but would also approach the range of many conventional combustion cars.

Nio has had a great deal of success with the ES6, a 5-seater high-performance, long-range, electric SUV, which was launched in China in 2019, and is the company’s second mass market electric model. Many analysts in the industry have watched the rapid growth of Nio, with its sole focus on high-quality fully-electric cars for the mass market, and see the company as a potential rival for Tesla.

In the current model line-up, Nio models are offered with 70 kWh and 84 kWh batteries, with a 100 kWh option likely to become available later this year. The number of monthly sales is doubling each year with more than 5,000 sales being recorded in October this year, and total sales for 2020 reaching 31,430 vehicles (YTD), an annual increase of 111%.

With the potential to be a major global EV brand, Zap-Map looks forward to seeing the Nio range available in Europe and the UK in 2021.
