Derby’s fastest public EV charging units have gone live at Southgate Retail Park.

Two ultra-rapid 200kW Touch Plus charge points have been installed alongside two 7kW charge points, which are designed for visitors intending to stay at the retail park for longer durations.

The Touch Plus charge points have large touchscreens and a simple interface that provides charging instructions for ease of use. In the UK, this is the first time a Touch unit has been upgraded to become Touch Plus using power modules to deliver ultra-rapid charging.

Every PoGo charge point is powered by 100% renewable electricity.

The site has been designed taking into account the PAS 1899:2022 standards, making the charge points fully accessible by wide bays and hatched areas, and a cable management system, to assist drivers and ensure the area around the units is kept tidy and safe when not in use.

PoGo is already looking at five more REI sites across the Midlands, where it expects to install another eleven ultra-rapid chargers in the coming months.

“We are proud to be bringing our reliable and easy to use ultra-rapid charging points to Derby,” says Stuart Douglas, Managing Director at PoGo.

“The addition of EV charging at REI’s Southgate Retail Park will help attract new customers to the shops and restaurants, supporting REI’s tenants at the same time as giving REI a consistent revenue stream and supporting its commitment to a more sustainable future.

“Demand for enroute EV charging is growing and drivers want reliable charging at convenient locations.

"We hope that our partnership with REI, and the rollout of our ultra-rapid charging at prime locations, will not only support existing EV drivers but also encourage others, and ultimately support local decarbonisation.”

PoGo is a Zapmap live data partner, meaning that users of Zapmap's EV charging app and web map can access to-the-minute status and availability information about PoGo’s charge points, enabling better planning of journeys and charging stops.

“The PoGo team is taking care of the site analysis, design and installation, and providing the best charging technology and ongoing maintenance, to ensure that visitors have a quick and easy EV charging experience,” said Jack Sears, Asset Manager at REI PLC.

“As a leading real estate business, we want to create a positive legacy. We are prioritising the reduction of our own environmental impact, and by adding EV charging facilities at our sites we are also supporting the wider community and businesses who are similarly reducing their environmental impact.”

Every PoGo charging location has multiple charging options, which are regularly serviced and maintained by an experienced team of EV-driving engineers and powered by 100% renewable electricity.
