Skoda has introduced remote charging for its electric vehicles by incorporating with Amazon’s Alexa voice command service.

Remote control features using the Skoda Connect app can now be accessed via the Alexa voice assistant, allowing users a range of features on their plug-in car.

Currently available on the CITIGOe iV pure-EV and Superb iV PHEV, drivers can start or stop charging remotely, as well as check driving range via Alexa. They can also control pre-conditioning and check on other elements such as whether the windows are closed using voice commands.

The service will be available on future EVs from Skoda as well, with the Enyaq iV pure-EV SUV due in September, and Skoda will add the same voice functionality to Google Home services by autumn.

Commands are structured like “Alexa, ask Skoda, I want to start charging my car”, and are available in English, French, German, and Italian.

Clearly, to start a charge, the car must first be plugged-in. Available functions include charging control, charging status check, battery level check, remaining charging time check, air conditioning control & status check, and last parking space check are all available using Alexa.
