The electric epidemic at Frankfurt Motorshow 2015

Frankfurt Motor Show is happening right now and there is plenty of new electric talent on show. Here are some of the stand outs:

1. Porsche Mission E concept

Perhaps the “star of the show”, The Mission E certainly impresses. With a range of 310 mile and an estimated 0-60 time at around 3.5 seconds, this all-electric four-door super-saloon has been turning quite a few heads.iaaporschemissione

2. Mercedes Concept IAA

Not far behind Porsche in the “wow factor” stakes is this concept PHEV from Mercedes. The draw with this electric saloon is it’s futuristic , active aerodynamics. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to go into production, however, it is a nod to Mercedes electric direction. As with practicality all other manufacturers, it is clear electric vehicles has moved up the agenda since last year.iaamercedesconceptiaa

3. Audi e-tron Quattro

Audi has confirmed that a similar version of this concept EV will go into production in 2018. With range and power figures similar to those of the Porsche above, the e-tron Quattro will become a rival to Tesla’s Model X while the Porsche tackles the Model S.iaaaudietronquattro

4. Nissan LEAF

Making its official debut at Frankfurt is Nissan’s new Leaf. It looks almost identical to the old version. However, their is an important difference: Armed with a 30kW battery the LEAF is now quoted to have offer 155 miles of range on a single charge. Although this may not be totally accurate (seasoned EV drivers know what I’m referring to here) it is 31 miles up on the old LEAFs “official” range.iaanissanleaf

5. BMW’s PHEV range

The 7 Series, X5, 3 Series and 2 Series Active Tourer have all been given the eDrive treatment with electric-only running possible. EV range is around 20 miles or more for each model, while emissions and MPG figures are dramatically reduced thanks to advanced drive systems that calculate which mode is most economical – Auto, Max and Save. The 740e, X5 xDrive 40e, 330e and 225xe will all be the most efficient cars in their respective classes when they come out any time between now and spring 2016.iaabmw
