ubitricity has installed 2,000 charge points in just under 4 months as part of the company’s rollout in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.
The first charge point was installed on 15th June 2025, with the company installing the 2,000th on 2nd October 2025, 3 months ahead of schedule. The charge points are operated under the Shell Recharge network and take less than 30 minutes to install. They have all been installed into existing lampposts on residential streets, providing residents with close-to-home public charging for their electric vehicles.
Stuart Wilson, UK Managing Director for ubitricity, said:
“We are confident that this is one of the fastest ever rollouts of mass public charging infrastructure in the UK. This rollout shows that local authorities can roll out much needed public charging infrastructure at speed and scale.”
“Public charging infrastructure in the UK is quickly growing and we are proud to doing our part in that. According to Zap-map, as of the 5th of September 2025, there were 85,163 electric vehicle charging points in the UK, this rollout alone accounts for 2% of that figure. We could not have done this without close co-ordination with Tower Hamlets council, and we look forward to collaborating with even more Local Authorities on smooth and efficient charge point roll outs in the coming months.”
ubitricity worked with installation partners Volker Highways on the project, who during peak installation phases of the project installed over 40 charge points in one day. ubitricity reports that it has already seen widescale adoption of the public charge points by local residents.
All of ubitricity's charge points can be found on the Zapmap app which displays live status and availability information for every one of its chargers. Direct payment is also available within the app, which allows you to check on the status of your charge, including time remaining and cost, and access your charging receipts all in one place.
