A 2,500 mile journey around the UK and Ireland has been planned to take in the best views from across the British Isles – and it’s all to be completed in an electric car. The trip – called Route 57 – will take around 20 days, starting in Plymouth and ending in Galway, with every mile covered in a Kia Soul EV.
Route 57 has been designed by Jurys Inn Hotels as the UK and Ireland’s answer to America’s famous Route 66. Covering a similar distance, it will promote tourism in the British Isles, and also prove that an electric car is more than up to the task of this testing road trip.
Set to be driven by journalist Jess Shanahan in a Soul EV supplied by electric car leasing company DriveElectric, the charging stations along the route have been mapped out by Zap-Map. The trip will cover more than 2,580 miles zig-zagging across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
Made up of 10 smaller routes, the journey will take in 57 – hence the name – British tourist destinations around the British Isles.
