Volvo is expanding it plug-in hybrid (PHEV) range with the addition of a new V60 Twin Engine variant designed for business users. Although the Swedish firm has confirmed that it will roll-out PHEV and full-electric versions of all new models going forward, Volvo has decided to expand its current range too with the new V60 D5 Twin Engine SE Nav.
The executive estate has quoted CO2 emissions of 48 g/km and 155 MPG fuel economy figure, but is available in D5 guise for the first time, with the V60 TwinEngine previously only available in the more powerful D6 specification.
This helps bring the price down to £35,000, while previously the range had started with the V60 D6 Twin Engine SE Lux Nav at almost £45,000. Using a 2.4 litre diesel engine – unusual in a PHEV where most use petrol – the new variant puts out 231hp and 620 Nm of torque. With drive sent to all four wheels, the V60’s acceleration time comes in at 6.9 seconds, before heading on to a top speed of 130mph.
Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, aluminium trim, electrically powered wing mirrors, leather upholstery, Volvo’s City Safe system, DAB/Bluetooth/USB audio system, Sensus Connect infotainment and navigation system, LED running lights, twin exhaust, electric parking brake, cruise control, and leather-trimmed steering wheel with system controls.
The Volvo is available for the UK Government’s Plug-in Car Grant at Category 2 level, which means customers get £2,500 off the price. Because of its plug-in hybrid powertrain too, the V60 is also eligible for 100 per cent write down allowance for business users, and is 7 per cent BIK rated.
The V60 D5 Twin Engine complements the D6 Twin Engine models in the same range, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine, and the forthcoming S90 T8 Twin Engine.
