Audi has launched the A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e in the UK. The plug-in hybrid has a range of up to 41 miles on a single charge, and features a combined power output of 204 hp.

The return of an A3 Sportback PHEV to the UK sees the hatchback join a long list of other other plug-in hybrids from the marque. The TSI e badge is also found on the A6, A7, A8, Q5, and Q7.

Powered by a 1.4 litre petrol engine and 80 kW electric motor, the A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e covers the 0-62 mph sprint in 7.6 seconds. It also returns official efficiency figures of 31 g/km CO2 and 282.5 MPG.

The A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e has a 13 kWh battery for its electric driving range, and its brake energy recuperation system can recover up to 40 kW of energy on the go.

Driving modes include EV, Battery Hold, and Battery Charge, plus Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual. Charging will take a little over four hours for a full top-up, and the myAudi app allows for connected car features familiar to EV drivers – pre-conditioning, charging timing etc.

The Audi A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e is available with a choice of two trim levels – Sport and S Line – with the range starting at £33,060. Orders can be placed this week.
