BMW has announced UK prices and specifications for the new iX3 pure-electric SUV. The new EV will start from £61,900, with a range of up to 279 miles available on a single charge.

Launching with two trim levels – Premier Edition and Premier Edition Pro in the UK – the BMW iX3 has an 80 kWh battery – of which 74 kWh is usable – and 210 kW (286 hp) electric motor.

That’s good for a 0-62 mph time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed limited to 112 mph. Power goes to the rear wheels, and the electric powertrain is largely contained within one unit.

Charging can be carried out at up to 150 kW DC, with 7.2 kW AC available for most applications, though the BMW iX3 will take up to 11 kW three-phase charging.

Brake energy recuperation is adapted depending on conditions and the road ahead. The iX3 will automatically boost braking strength when approaching a junction for example, or set the system to coast when on the motorway. Alternatively, there are selectable high, medium, and low recuperation levels.

A B mode is available to the driver, which allows ‘one-pedal driving’ like that on the BMW i3, and there’s a heat pump for the HVAC systems for greater efficiency.

Prices start at £61,900 for the BMW iX3 Premier Edition and £64,900 for Premier Edition Pro – which adds features such as a head-up display, Harman Kardon surround sound, gesture control, park assist, & BMW IconicSounds Electric, developed developed with composer Hans Zimmer. Orders are being taken now, with first deliveries expected from summer 2021.
