BMW has launched the iX3, the company’s first pure-electric SUV. Featuring an 80 kWh battery, the BMW iX3 offers a range of up to 285 miles on a single charge.
The iX3 uses BMW’s fifth-generation electric motor, and produces 210 kW (286 hp). That a allows for a 0-62 mph time of 6.8 seconds, and a top speed of 112 mph.
Ultra-rapid charging is capable at up to 150 kW DC, and the on-board charger will accept 7.4 kW AC single-phase, and 11 kW AC three-phase.
Although visually similar to the conventional X3, the iX3 has a few electric-specific details such as a closed-off grille, and blue flashes within design details.
With the launch of the iX3, the X3 is now available in pure-electric, PHEV, and petrol & diesel powertrains. It will rival the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-tron and Mercedes Benz EQC – though expected to cost less than the latter two models – plus the forthcoming Ford Mustang Mach-E and forthcoming Tesla Model Y.
Prices and UK specifications will be revealed later this year, before arriving on these shores in 2021.
