An EV Consumer Code has been launched, which looks to ensure consumers get fair treatment from domestic electric vehicle charge point installers.
Instigated by the REA – the Association for Renewable Energy & Clean Technology – the EV Consumer Code (EVCC) is the first of its kind in the UK, and is a voluntary scheme that UK-based domestic charge point installers can subscribe to.
The intention is to identify the installers as a reputable firm, with consumers able to clearly see the accreditation by finding the EVCC logo amongst its marketing material.
Built on the expertise of the team behind the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC), the EV Consumer Code aims to provide confidence in consumers choosing an EV charge point installer. There are currently around 1,000 businesses authorised to install domestic EV charge points uder the UK Government’s EV Homecharge Scheme.
Code membership offers a model quotation, contract, and warranty, as well as access to alternative dispute resolution services should anything go wrong.
Dr Nina Skorupska CBE, Chief Executive of the REA said: “The EV charging industry is committed to best practice. Decarbonisation of the UK transport sector is our aim, but to achieve this we need to bring consumers with us on the journey and ensure they are confident about the low-carbon products and services on the market.”
