Hyundai has launched the first teaser images of the Kona Electric, previewing the all-electric compact SUV due later this year.
Set to be unveiled on 27th February, Hyundai is aiming to get the Kona Electric’s range to around 290 miles – measured on the WLTP cycle rather than the less stringent NEDC. There will be two different powertrains on offer too, with Hyundai promising one of the most powerful electric motors on the market.
With the EV set to offer class leading range and enter one of the fastest growing market sectors around, the Kona Electric is likely to be a hit with customers. We’ve listed it in NGC’s Top 10 Green Cars 2018 list of cars to watch out for, and placed it as runner-up to the Jaguar I-Pace in the NGC Next Generation Award 2017.
The model will add to a burgoning electric model range from Hyundai, with the IONIQ Electric and Plug In Hybrid also supported currently by the ix35 Fuel Cell – though the latter is set to be replaced by the more advanced and stylish Nexo. Sister brand Kia also has the Soul EV, plus PHEV versions of the Niro crossover, and Optima saloon & estate models.
