Scotland’s largest EV charging hub has been officially opened in Falkirk, with capacity for 26 vehicles. The new £1.4 million hub is located at the Falkirk Stadium.
Incorporating five rapid 50 KW DC charge points and eight fast 22 kW units – all able to charge two cars at a time – the points are on the ChargePlace Scotland network.
Situated not far from the M9, the charging hub should generate more than 30% of its required energy from the solar canopies. This will save an estimated 75 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Although available for use for some time now, the charging hub has had its official opening, with Michael Matheson MSP, cabinet secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, and Connectivity, and Cecil Meiklejohn, leader of Falkirk Council, at the event.
Funding has come from the Scottish Government, Falkirk Council, and the European Regional Development Fund. Featuring both rapid and fast charge points, the hub is part of Scotland’s Electric A9 project, which looks to make EV charging extensively available along a core route.
