Lidl has announced that all new stores will have rapid EV charge points fitted, as it looks to offer easier access to charging for EV drivers.

With rapid chargers already installed at more than 40 sites across the UK, the new commitment means that over a third of all Lidl stores in the UK will have rapid chargers by 2022.

That will be possible by rolling out 300 rapid chargers at the supermarket firm’s sites over the next three years, including adding units to existing stores.

More than £25 million is being invested in rapid EV charging infrastructure from the supermarket, with Pod Point installing and operating the chargers for Lidl. Access will be via Pod Point’s app, with a low tariff of 23p/kWh.

As they go live, the units will be available to find on Zap-Map, with 50 new stores opening across the UK in 2019.
