Morris Commercial has launched the JE van, a retro-inspired pure-electric LCV with a range of 200 miles on a single charge.

Due to go into production in 2021, the new Morris JE will cost around £60,000 (exc. grants), and although it’s styling looks to the past, it’s construction is far more modern. Wrapping around the electric powertrain is a carbon-fibre body.

The benefit of using lightweight materials in construction is that range is maximised. Attention has been paid to key LCV attributes too, with a 1 tonne payload and large carrying capacity; that’s despite sitting in the 2.5 tonne segment.

The revived Morris Commercial name is based in Worcestershire, with manufacturing set to be in the UK – though at an as yet undisclosed site. Additional models are set to be launched in the future, based on the same platform and powertrain.
