The X2 xDrive 25e is a new addition to the ranks, with the plug-in crossover will featuring BMW’s latest generation electric powertrain. It allows for an electric driving range of 33 miles on a single charge thanks to a 10 kWh battery.

This powers a 70 kW electric motor, paired with a 1.5 litre petrol engine. Combined power comes in at 220 hp (162 kW), with a 0-62 mph time of 6.8 seconds possible and a top speed of 121 mph – 84 mph in electric mode.

The powertrain returns a combined fuel economy figure of 166.2 MPG, and CO2 emissions rated at 38 g/km. To help achieve these figures, there are three driving modes available – Auto, Max eDrive, and Save Battery. Charging is completed in around 3.2 hours for a full top-up.

The BMW 530e sees improvements as part of a model-wide upgrade programme. Tweaked styling and improved equipment levels are the main changes across the range, with the big plug-in news being that the 530e will be available as an estate for the first time – the 530e Touring.

Like the smaller 3 Series PHEV range, the 5 Series PHEV will be available in either body style, and with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. Efficiency statistics are yet to be confirmed, but pricing will start at £47,130 for the 530e Saloon, and £49,380 for the 530e Touring – the latter won’t arrive until later in the year/early 2021.
