This summer Edinburgh Council will approve the installation of new electric car charging points in the Scottish capital, most likely to be based in Marchmont and Sciennes area.

As on September 2014, there were 121 registered electric vehicle (EV) owners in Edinburgh; for this reason the council, in association with Transport Scotland has decided to increase the amount of publically available EV charging points.

Currently, there are 54 charging points spread over 23 locations in Edinburgh.

The council is planning an initial rollout of new on-street points in Marchmont and Sciennes, where the highest demand lies.

The second phase of the project will focus on introducing charging points to parking bays and city car club spaces in the second half of 2016.
