Engenie is set to double the UK’s current number of rapid chargers, following the EV charging network’s announcement of £35 million in funding. The rapid-charging specialists will install more than 2,000 units across the UK by 2024.

By the end of the year, Engenie will have installed chargers at more than 100 sites in the UK, and once complete, the network estimates that it could serve more than 5 million EVs a year, saving up to 25 tonnes of NOx annually.

All points are powered by 100% renewable energy, and are currently 50 kW rapid units, which are able to be accessed with a contactless bank card. This new round of funding comes from investment from Cube Infrastructure Fund II, which is worth 1.04 billion euros.

Based on Zap-Map’s figure of 2,189 rapid chargers in the UK at the end of May 2019, Engenie plans to double that figure on its own. With other networks not set to stand still in the next five years either, the country will see a large number of rapid charge points installed before 2024.

Engenie is one of Zap-Map’s dynamic data partners, which allows users to view up-to-date status information on the network’s charge points.
