Franklin Energy has agreed a deal to take on the operation of Liverpool City Region’s Recharge public EV charging network.

There are currently 52 Recharge units at 21 sites across the city, and Franklin Energy – which operates the LiFe public charging network – will assume responsibility for them.

Liverpool-based Franklin Energy plans to the existing network of 7 kW fast charge points, with aims to add 22 kW chargers at existing sites, and then expand the network with 22 kW fast units where possible.

Within the next 12 months, an additional 100 public charge points are due to be installed, and 500 units to be available by 2023. Of these, around 85% will be fast charge points, with the remainder being rapid DC units.

Robert Byrne, Managing Director of Franklin Energy said: “This is a fantastic development for the company and gives us massive scope to further roll out our brand and our portfolio of EV services regionally, nationally and to other local authorities.

“Liverpool City Region has a target to become carbon neutral by 2040 and we are committed to playing our part in helping deliver this. Carbon emissions from transport account for approximately 23% of greenhouse gas emissions and by providing a public charging network at scale, we are able to enhance the proposition and transition to EV for all drivers. Those who can’t charge at home now have a viable and affordable alternative to choose a plug-in vehicle over a conventional car.”

EV drivers looking to use the charge points can register with Franklin Energy’s LiFe network here.
