Jaguar Land Rover installs 166 smart EV charge points at Gaydon centre

Jaguar Land Rover has installed 166 EV charge points at its Gaydon engineering base, for use by its employees and visitors. The huge roll-out demonstrates the British company’s commitment to electric vehicles, with workplace charging becoming increasingly common.

The smart charge points have been installed by NewMotion, and are 7 kW units. Powered by 100% renewable electricity, guests will be able to charge when visiting, and the cost-neutral points are available to use by all staff.

Jaguar’s I-Pace makes up the company’s only pure-electric model currently, and Land Rover offers the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new points are designed to make charging at work easier, and encourage the uptake of plug-in cars.

Mick Cameron, Head of e-Mobility at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Every new Jaguar and Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice. We have already introduced a portfolio of electrified products across our model ranges, including fully electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and mild hybrid (MHEV) vehicles.

“The Jaguar I-Pace, Jaguar’s first premium battery electric vehicle, arrived in showrooms in March 2018 and has since won 55 international awards including European Car of the Year 2019. We hope that by providing a network of electric charging points to staff and visitors at our Gaydon engineering centre we can help encourage the uptake of alternative fuels amongst our employees.”
