Jeep Renegade 4xe arrives

Jeep has launched the Renegade 4xe a plug-in hybrid version of its compact SUV. Jeep’s smallest model is the first from the firm to get an electrified powertrain, with an electric-only range of up to 26 miles on a charge available.

Power comes from a 1.3 litre petrol engine and 44 kW electric motor – backed by an 11.4 kWh battery – with two outputs on offer. Longitude and Limited versions will have a combined output of 190 hp, whilst Trailhawk models get 240 hp.

All models feature e-AWD and a six-speed automatic transmission, with the best performance times coming in at 7.5 seconds for the 0-62 mph run and a top speed of 124 mph. Emissions are rated at less than 50 g/km CO2, with a fuel economy of 123 – 134 MPG depending on model.

Charging will take less than two hours when plugged in to a 7 kW charge point, and there are range of electric driving systems to help maximise efficiency.

Three core driving modes – Hybrid, Electric, and E-Save – with the latter either able to hold the battery’s charge, or actively recharge it using the engine. Jeep’s regenerative braking system – eCoasting – has two different settings for strong braking or greater focus on coasting.

Prices start at £32,600 for the entry-level Renegade 4xe, and £36,500 for the more powerful Trailhawk model, when it arrives in Jeep showrooms this September.
