BMW has launched a new personalisation programme for its i8 plug-in sports car. The BMW Individual paint scheme has been rolled out to the i8 range and allows a greater level of customisation for customers than before.
The main changes come in the paint palate available for buyers to choose from. Previously there were only four colours to choose from – Ionic Silver, Crystal White, Sophisto Grey, and Protonic Blue – silver, white, charcoal and electric blue in layman’s terms.
Now though, buyers can pick from a much larger range of colours if the BMW Individual option is selected, with the likes of Java Green, Speed Yellow, Solar Orange, Twilight Purple Pearl, Frozen Grey, Frozen Black, San Marino Blue and Grigio Telesto Pearl now available. Finish options have improved too with matter, metallic and ‘Xirallic’ now available too, the last option using a mix of synthetic mica and aluminium flakes to create a ‘metallic+’ effect.
There is also the addition of a fourth alloy wheel choice included, with black versions of the previously available W-spoke alloys now on offer.
There is a premium to pay for this increased level of choice, with the new i8 BMW Individual Exterior Paint Programme priced from £5,495. There are likely to be plenty of takers though since demand has been high for the BMW i8 Protonic Red model – a specification that costs around £8,000 more than a standard i8, which starts at £104,540.
Richard Hudson, Sales Director for BMW UK, said: “The BMW i8 embodies the accomplished vision of a modern and sustainable sports car. The new paintwork colours not only complement the BMW i8s emotive styling and design, they also work harmoniously with the BMW i brand and provide customers with exclusive personalised options.”
The BMW Individual option is live now, with customers able to select new paint and wheel options immediately. Mechanically the i8 remains the same, with official weighted CO2 and fuel economy figures of 49 g/km and 135 MPG respectively from the plug-in hybrid powertrain.
