The government has announced a new £300 million Environment Fund, part of which will aid the growth of the UK’s rapid charging point network.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin and Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander yesterday revealed a £15 billion spending initiative to increase the capacity and improve the condition of England’s roads.

The government was keen to address concerns surrounding the environmental impact of new roads by reasserting their commitment to electric vehicles.

Amongst other measures, including noise barriers, a £300 million Environment Fund will enable the installation of new rapid charging points.

As stated in the governments investment plan for the ‘Strategic Road Network’: “We will also support the shift to a lower carbon network by investing in rapid chargers to ensure that people will rarely be more than 20 miles from a rapid charger on the SRN”
