The Nissan Leaf is the most popular car amongst EV drivers in the UK according to NewMotion’s annual survey, picking up 28% of the vote.

The EV – now in its second generation – beat the Tesla Model S with 25%, and BMW’s i3 on 11% of the vote.

The survey doesn’t track buying habits, but preferences for EV drivers, and only two of the top 10 models in the UK are pure-EVs rather than PHEVs. This is in contrast to overall buying trends in the UK, which see PHEVs sit at two-thirds of the UK’s plug-in car market sales currently.

The Outlander PHEV and BMW 225xe came in at 4th and 10th respectively, while the rest of the UK Top 10 consisted of the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model X, Hyundai Ioniq Electric, Kia Soul EV, and Nissan e-NV200 Evalia in positions five to nine.

The UK’s favourite plug-in models are largely different to the European results, with the Xoe, Model S, and Outlander PHEV taking the top three positions according to NewMotion’s survey.

The UK’s top model – Nissan’s Leaf – comes in third, with the i3, Ioniq Electric, Volvo V60 PHEV, Opel Ampera (not sold in the UK), Model X, and VW e-Golf completing the European list in that order.
