Next Green Car has announced that it has been awarded the contract to take over management of the National Charge Point Registry (NCR) on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

From October 2014, Next Green Car will take responsibility for managing the NCR and overseeing the next phase of development of the UK’s official database electric vehicle of charging locations. The objectives of the development are to improve data quality as well as data coverage.

The NCR, which was established by the UK Government in 2011 to provide a publicly available database of charge points, has already played a key role in supporting the development of the UK EV market. Its continuation and improvement is, therefore, highly important in increasing the UK adoption of electric vehicles.

Announcing the awarding of the contract, Dr Ben Lane, Director of Next Green Car, said: “We are delighted to be taking over the responsibility for managing the National Charge Point Registry on behalf of the UK Government and fully appreciate the NCR’s key role in supporting existing and prospective EV users across the UK.

“Next Green Car will bring its extensive experience of providing quality automotive data to the NCR. We also look forward to consulting extensively in the coming months as to how the current data service can be improved and working with key stakeholders to launch an improved NCR at the end of Q1 2015.”

In managing the NCR, Next Green Car will use its own in-house web-development and data management team, and will be supported by Boson Media, a web-development company with extensive experience in designing bespoke business software solutions.

The NCR portal will remain at the same URL: http://chargepoints.dft.gov.uk/
