Osprey installs first Tritium RTM75 DC rapid chargers in Europe

In a first for the county of Hampshire, Osprey Charging has installed the first Tritium RTM75 rapid chargers in Europe, at a new Starbucks site in Gosport. The chargers provide up to 75kW of charge to an electric vehicle (EV).

The Tritium RTM75 units were installed by Osprey in partnership with Harkalm at the new site in Hampshire, operated by 23.5 Degrees Ltd.

The RTM75 charger power can be increased from 25kW to 50kW and 75kW, providing flexibility to easily upgrade the charger as the needs of the site change. This should enable the site to better serve the new wave of electric cars coming to the market with higher voltages.

The modular design on the RTM75 should result in high uptime for customers and, as such, a faster return on investment for operators. The RTM75 also provides options for 6m (20ft) cables with integrated cable management in order to ensure a safe and sustainable charging environment.

Osprey, which aims to be at the forefront of delivering the best EV charging experience for customers, is building upon a significant roll-out in 2020, with agreements for over 400 charging devices across 200 sites.

As Zap-Map’s launch partner, Osprey’s charge points were the first to be Zap-Pay enabled, allowing Zap-Map users to pay for charging at Osprey’s rapid chargers through the app. The network became Osprey in October 2020, having previously been known as Engenie. No membership is required, with drivers using Zap-Pay, contactless bank card payment or the Osprey app on a pay-as-you-go basis. Osprey guarantees that each charging point is powered using 100% renewable electricity.

Going forward, Osprey will be installing a mix of Tritium’s DC units at future sites, ranging from 75kW to 350kW.

Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging, said:

“Osprey‘s mission is to deliver the very best charging experience for the ever-growing number of EV drivers on UK’s roads. Tritium are an excellent partner for this mission.”

Tritium, founded in 2001, is a leader in DC rapid charging technology for EVs. The company designs and manufactures proprietary technology to create reliable DC rapid chargers for electric vehicles. Its compact, robust designs are built to weather some of the world’s harshest conditions.

Tritium UK Country Manager, Kevin Pugh, said:

“Tritium is thrilled to launch the first RTM75 in the UK, which we are justifiably proud of. We are excited for this next phase of advanced EV charging technology, with improved user interface. This convenient customer charging experience has been a key criteria for Osprey as a leading network operator.”
