Taycan announced as name for Porsche Mission E

Porsche has revealed that its first pure-electric model – until now known by its concept title Mission E – will be called the Taycan.

Roughly translated as “lively young horse”, in reference to the centre of Porsche’s crest, the Taycan name was announced as part of the company’s 70 years of sports cars ceremony.

Set to be fitted with two electric motors producing more than 440 kW (600 hp) combined, the Taycan is set to complete the 0-62mph sprint in “well under 3.5 seconds”.

The Porsche will also offer a range of more than 310 miles (NEDC), and ultra rapid charging capability that will draw enough power to add 62 miles (100 km) in just four minutes. Production is set to start next year.
