Tesla has announced new Model S upgrades that will enable an increase in electric vehicle range and introduce a new “Ludicrous Mode”, allowing the EV to accelerate from 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds.
New Model S’s will house a 90kWh battery , which is estimated to improve the Model S’s range by 6% or 20-30 miles. This means in theory the new Tesla Model S should be able to reach 310 miles on a single charge.
Existing owners are able to upgrade their battery, although Musk has recommended waiting a while as they are currently targeting a 5% annual improvement in battery capacity.
If P85D owners or new buyers choose to go for the battery upgrade then they will be able to unlock “Ludicrous mode”, and achieve 0-60 in 2.8 seconds.
This is 0.4 second quicker than previously possible in “Insane mode”.
